Terms of Service
These terms form an agreement between you and Trace&Trap covering your use of the Trace&Trap app, dashboard and companion device software.
Last updated 13 August 2026. Questions: support@traceandtrap.co.za
1. What Trace&Trap does
Trace&Trap is a theft-deterrence companion. You register a device, and from the owner dashboard you can mark that device as stolen. The next time the companion app is opened on the device it displays a full-screen stolen-property notice, sounds an alarm, and — if location permission was granted — reports its position to your dashboard.
The service is a deterrent only. It depends on the companion app remaining installed, being opened, having location permission, and the device having connectivity. It is not a replacement for Apple Find My iPhone or Google Find My Device, which you should also keep enabled. We do not guarantee recovery of any device.
2. Your account
You must give accurate contact information and keep your password confidential. You are responsible for everything done through your account. The lock screen shows the contact details you enter, so only enter details you are willing to display publicly on a stolen device.
3. Trial, plans and payment
New accounts receive a 14-day free trial with full functionality. After the trial you need an active plan to mark a device as stolen.
The Monthly plan costs R59 per month and renews automatically until cancelled. The Lifetime plan is a once-off payment of R1 199. All prices are in South African Rand and include any applicable taxes unless stated otherwise.
Payments are processed by PayFast. We never see or store your full card details. Recurring charges are taken by PayFast against the payment method you authorised at checkout.
4. Cancellation and refunds
You can cancel a monthly subscription at any time from the billing page. Cancellation stops future charges; access continues until the end of the period you have already paid for. We do not pro-rate part-months.
Once-off Lifetime purchases are not recurring and cannot be cancelled. If you believe you were charged in error, contact support@traceandtrap.co.za and we will investigate.
5. Acceptable use
You may only register and track devices that you own or are authorised to administer. Using Trace&Trap to monitor another person's location without their knowledge and consent is prohibited and may be unlawful.
Do not use the service to harass anyone, to display false stolen-property notices, or to attempt to recover a device yourself by confronting a suspected thief. Report theft to the police and your mobile network, and pass any location information to them.
We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches these terms or that is used for unlawful purposes.
6. Availability and changes
We aim to keep the service available but do not promise uninterrupted operation. Features may change, and we may modify these terms. Material changes will be reflected by an updated date on this page, and continued use means you accept the revised terms.
7. Limitation of liability
The service is provided on an "as is" basis. To the maximum extent permitted by law we are not liable for loss, theft or damage to a device, for data or location information that is unavailable or inaccurate, or for any indirect or consequential loss. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act that cannot lawfully be limited.
8. Intellectual property
The Trace&Trap name, software, design and content are owned by Trace&Trap. You get a personal, non-transferable licence to use the app for its intended purpose. You may not copy, resell or reverse engineer it.
9. Governing law and contact
These terms are governed by the laws of South Africa. For anything relating to this agreement, contact support@traceandtrap.co.za.
